Most excellent episodes of Lost and Srubs this week!

Lost was getting a bit boring, but now it's picked up a bit again. I was actually excited while watching the last episode, and just wanted more!

Srubs, of course, is always a good show.

A picture taken on St. Patrick's day. I'll probably catch some flak for posting it.

Decided to take some snapshots on the way home last night. Shutter speeds of 1-2 secs. I need a better mount for the camera, though, as my dash vibrates too much!

I have a tendency to give people the benefit of the doubt. I guess I believe that people are inherently good.

When I trust a relative stranger, I guess I'm sort of asking to be taken advantage of. It's too bad, really, that people take advantage of what little trust there is. Now we're left with no trust at all.

Fool me once... Shame on me. Fool me twice... Fuck you.

My finger hurts! From practicing guitar, that is. Spent a couple hours last night. Actually managed to play something that sounded like music! My fingers aren't used to pressing on strings, though. Hopefully they'll get used to it soon!

Sunrise this morning...

Wow. What a weekend! I feel like I've been on the road all weekend. Which, I guess, is fairly close to the truth. Anyway, my brother visited.

Here's a pic of him:

Also got my new guitar this weekend!

It's been 20 years since I played, but I'm gonna try it again! My dad's played guitar most of his life, so it should be in my blood.

On a lighter note, my brother is coming to spend the weekend. He's been on a work assignment down in
Mobile, AL, so he's "stopping by" on his way home. He's only been to see me once in the last 10 years!

So is spring here yet, or what? I was loving the warm temps yesterday. Looks like today might be more of the same!

Friends With Money (2006)
Desperate Housewives for the big screen. Okay, not really, but they do share quite a few elements. The story is built around 4 women. 3 of who are married, and then their single, not-so-well-off friend (Jennifer Aniston).

Each of the 4 women has their own sets of problems. One is a bit out of touch with reality because she's got tons of money, one is close to having a breakdown of sorts (which I'm sure isn't helped by the fact that she's obviously married to a gay guy), another is having marital problems (which is blamed on her husband being a jackass). Finally, there's the character most of us can relate to, Olivia. She used to be a teacher, but quit her job because the kids she taught all came from rich families, and they treated her like a homeless person because she didn't have as much money. So now she makes a living as a housekeeper. The 3 women all feel bad for Olivia because she's not as well off as they are. She's also single and having a hard time finding a decent guy.

It doesn't take long before we (and they) realize that they're basically as messed up as Olivia is. They just haven't realized it yet.

I guess the underlying moral of the story is that money doesn't make you happy. However, at the same time, it also shows that money doesn't necessarily make your life horrible either. You can be happy whether you're rich or not. Rich people have problems just like anybody else.

It was an entertaining movie, I thought. A "true" movie, not some Hollywood sappy love story.

Blood Diamond (2006)
I'm not sure how much of the story is based on reality, but the concept of "conflict diamonds" is real. The movie gives you a glimpse of what some people have to go through to get you your diamonds. This only refers to diamonds from conflict areas, of course. Most of the diamonds on the market are not conflict diamonds. Anyway, I digress...

While the movie explores a rather serious subject, the "story" almost has a Robin Hood feel to it. I guess all movies must have certain things in them.. good guys, love interest, "heroes". Sure, the love story in the movie wasn't badly done, but c'mon, it's a bit dumb. Was it even necessary? I don't know. I guess the ending kinda depended on it.

There's quite a bit of action and "shock" in the movie. Which makes it entertaining. The underlying story, though, is what this movie really should be about.

Shortbus (2006)
What to say... Wow. I knew the movie was going to be about sexual "deviant" behavior. What I wasn't expecting was for it to be a gay porn movie! There's nudity and sex of all kinds in the movie, but the gay sex scenes were much more graphic, and much more prevalent. There's a scene with a 3-way circle suck. 3 guys sucking each other. And yes, you see the sucking up close and in person.

The "straight" sex shows a little bit more than a typical movie, but no graphic up close shots.

With that said, the movie isn't a porn movie. It does have a real story to it. There are 3 main characters; the gay couple and the woman who never had an O. And let's not forget the dominatrix.

There's some pretty cool artistic stuff in the movie. No, not the sex. That's not artistic. But the fly-by views of New York, which are actually animated.

Anyway, I know, I suck at reviewing movies. But anyway. Even with its graphic gay sex, the movie wasn't all that bad.

Not a movie, but a weight! I worked out yesterday and set a new personal bench press best. 260 lbs! Yay!! :o)

To Catch a Predator.

Anyone ever catch this Dateline Special? They set up sting operations to catch creeps that use the internet to hook up with minors.

I'm amazed at the... I don't even know what to call it. Desperation? Some of these guys drive 300+ miles to hook up with a 13 year old girl (or in some cases, a boy). What's wrong with these people?!?

What does a 13 y/o have to offer that's worth driving for hours and risking jail time? I don't get it.

One of the perps on last night's show was a 32 y/o guy that worked as a waiter for a popular restaurant chain. He was trying to hook up with a 13 y/o boy! Is this the kind of guy I want handing me my food?? Not on your life! Fortunately he was fired and will probably serve some jail time. Makes you think, though. It's not just the balding 40+ guys that still live with their mom that does shit like this. As a matter of fact, most of the guys were in their 20's.

People are f%#@ed up!

The other day there was a low cloud cover and some fierce winds. Combined with the moon and some tree branches, it almost looked like a scene from a zombie movie.

Here's the vid: Moon, clouds, wind. Pardon the very lame "sound track".

The Darwin Awards (2006)
"The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways."

I was expecting this movie to be a decent time waster, nothing more. And that's pretty much all it was. Not that I didn't laugh out loud more than a couple times, 'cause I did. But it's not a gut bustingly funny movie by any means.

I think the highlight for me was when Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage (The Mythbusters) made an appearance in the movie! I love Mythbusters! It's an awesome show that airs on Discovery Channel.

This movie is pretty average in all ways. So with that said, I can't really say it's a bad movie, 'cause that would mean most movies are bad.

If you have an interest in the Darwin Awards, you'll probably find this movie a bit interesting. If you've never heard of the Darwin Awards, you'll probably wonder what the point is.

At least this movie doesn't suck as much as 23 (with Ace Ventura.. I mean, Jim Carrey) does. Faced with a choice of which of the two to see, The Darwin Awards is the clear winner. It's got a bunch of "famous" people in it, even. While 23 has some guy that makes a living making faces in it. Which would you choose?

The Great Escape (1963)
Based on a true story of POW's escaping from a German POW camp.

It has the typical acting and musical score that you'd expect from the period. An of course, "special" effects aren't very special.

It's a long movie, at 2 hours 45 minutes. Didn't really feel that long, though.

I only watched this movie because it's a classic and often rated as one of the best WWII movies of all time. While I disagree with it being that good, it's a pretty decent flick. But does it compare with movies like "Saving Private Ryan"? Not at all.

That reminds me, I never did see Schindler's List. Guess I'll make a mental note to see it some time.

Friday March 2nd 2007

Worked out last night. Great workout! If you're familiar with working out, you know the feeling when your muscles just don't have anything more to give. When that last rep takes everything you've got! Well, I went that far a lot of times last night, and then I went a bit further. Got in 2 or 3 extra reps after the "pain" set in (basically going 'til failure). It's really uncomfortable at the time, but so worth it a couple minutes later! Your muscles get really pumped, and rock hard. By the time I was done working out I couldn't walk straight nor lift my arms! :o)

Also did 3 sets of 6 with 225lbs on the bench. To think I couldn't even do one rep just a few weeks ago. Yes, it was a good workout.

I get to go to the dentist tonight. Cool way to start the weekend, huh?
