Just finished watching a movie. Not gonna say much about it, though. Not merely for selfish reasons either.

What I can say is that while I didn't really care for the actors chosen to play to two leading roles, the movie itself didn't really suffer because of it. The message was received loud and clear. And while sad, there was happiness in the sadness.

Those that know me know that Pink Floyd is one of my favorite band ever, by far.

I've discovered a new band (well, new to me), though. Muse. You might have seen my blog from a few days ago posting the Unintended lyrics. Muse rocks. Literally. They have a sound of their own, and it is awesome!

Check 'em out at www.MUSE.mu.

If you don't like 'em, it just means your taste in music sucks. LOL!

Someone at work called me and said something was wrong with their Excel spreadsheet. They were unable to enter any data in any of the cells.

I went to check it out, and when she showed me what was happening, it was pretty obvious the Num Lock was turned off. So I pushed the Num Lock key and told her to try it again. She felt pretty dumb! So I made this pic and e-mailed it to her:

Should also mention that K and I went to a hole in the wall restaurant and had some rather good food. I had falafels for the first time, and even though they don't have any meat in them, they're really good tasting!!

Also had my first Apple Tini that night, in true JD style.

Went out for shopping, dinner and a movie with K on Friday. Saw Hot Fuzz.

Hot Fuzz (2007)
After just having watched Shaun of The Dead, I had high hopes for this movie. Having read reviews that praised it for being hilarious, I had even higher hopes. I was hoping for a side splitting laugh of a movie. It wasn't, though. Don't get me wrong, I laughed a lot during the movie, but not the tears in your eyes, can't breathe kind of laughs I was hoping for. I much preferred Shaun of The Dead to this movie. Not that the movies themselves can be compared, but the people behind the movies are the same ones.

The main character in the movie is a cop in London. Unfortunately, he's so good at what he's doing that he's making the other cops look bad. So he gets transferred to a sleepy village where nothing ever happens. Or at least so it seems on the surface. As it turns out, it's not as sleepy as it may seem.

Music and Lyrics (2007)
I slept through the middle hour of this movie, so I really don't have much to go on. I'm sure as far a romantic comedies go, it had all the required elements, including a happy ending.

28 Days Later (2002)
I've seen some zombie movies in my life. Typically they're all about fitting as many zombie slayerings as possible into the 1:30 long movie. This movie is profoundly different. It doesn't focus so much on the zombies as it does on the people trying to keep from becoming zombies. Add to that a great soundtrack and awesome cinematagrophy along with a good story, and you've got yourself a great movie. K had said she thought it was a really scary movie, so I was bracing for the worst. I didn't find it to be that scary, though. Sure, there are times when you jump and your heart starts beating that much faster, but overall there are very few heart-stopping scenes. I'd say that's a good thing, though, 'cause it lets the movie be what it is, instead of a scare fest littered with decapitations and impalings. This is by far the best zombie movie I've ever seen, mostly due to it not being so much of a zombie movie!

Shaun of The Dead (2004)

I never watched this movie before 'cause I thought it was some lame zombie movie. It is a zombie movie, but it's a funny zombie movie. It's a comedy set in zombie nation. I was pleasantly surprised at this movie. Made me laugh out loud a few times. You probably already knew that, though, 'cause I'm probably one of the last people that hadn't seen it yet!

The Ex (2007)
Zach Braff again. Not as funny as I wanted it to be, but still good for a few laughs. Tom (Zach Braff) gets a job with his father in law after being fired from his restaurant job. Tom's wife's ex boyfriend also works at this same company, and he never did quite get over her (or simply doesn't want anyone else to have her). Hilarity and competition ensues based on this little conflict.

I love this song!!

And I don't care what anyone else thinks!

Muse - Unintended
You could be my unintended
Choice to live my life extended
You could be the one I'll always love
You could be the one who listens
To my deepest inquisitions
You could be the one I'll always love

I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken
Pieces of the life I had before

First there was the one who challenged
All my dreams and all my balance
She could never be as good as you
You could be my unintended
Choice to live my life extended
You should be the one I'll always love

I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken
Pieces of the life I had before

I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken
Pieces of the life I had before

Before you

The weekend sucked!

In a good way, though. Bought a new vacuum cleaner, and boy does it suck!

Here's my vacuum collection:

From left to right: Eureka "The Boss", Dirt Devil Swivel Glide, Bissel Pro Heat (carpet cleaner) and finally the new Hoover Mach 5!

I'm pretty sure the Hoover sucks more than all the other 3 combined! After vacuuming and cleaning the carpet, the Hoover still sucked up a rather disturbing amount of crap!

Also watched a movie..

Layer Cake (2004)
British movie about drug lords and users. Basically a tangled web of deception and double crossings! So tangled, in fact, that it left me confused! Entertaining, though, if you don't mind the thick British (Cockney?) accent at times.

Oh, and what great weather yesterday!! Spent a lot of time driving between 3 Wal-Marts (to find one that had my vacuum cleaner in stock). T-tops were out all day! Apparently I got some "color" to my face even. :o)

My Super Ex Girlfriend (2006)
I started watching this movie a long time ago, but stopped it for some reason I can't recall. Anyway, this weekend I watched it.

It was pretty cool! Some seriously funny stuff in the first 1/2 of the movie. After that it kinda took a dive, though.

Overall a decent waste of time.

...we went bowling and I got a ton of strikes?
...you broke the trombone in two?
...you kissed me in your kitchen on out 2nd date when I wasn't making the move?
...we drove on I-96 for a couple hours before realizing we weren't on I-69 anymore?

...I broke your guitar while trying to tune it?
...you gave me road head on the way home from the bar?
...you called me two hours before our first date and cancelled?
...you broke the stained glass window?
...psycho Chad punched out the window in my car?
...that deer jumped over the hood of our car?
...we were caught shoplifting?
...I saw your sister naked?
...the lighter caught my desk on fire?
...we used the Major's car to go joy riding?
...I found that piece of farm equipment and you thought it was something super old?
...someone broke into our tree house and emptied a fire extinguisher inside?
...the hospital building down town burned?
...you came to my house before work one morning?
...I drank beer for the first time?
...I tried cigarettes and got high off the Marlboro Red?
...we went to Piere's in Fort Wayne and the whole weekend turned into a disaster?
...I cut my leg open on that barrel?
...the raft burst and I walked on water?
...we were dirty dancing and that guy asked us if we were gonna "hook up" later?

Do you remember that time?

Some junk e-mail found its way to me this morning. I usually don't pay much attention to these kind of things, but I found this particular one pretty interesting. The e-mail was titled "What baby are you?" (should be "which", I guess) and contained short descriptions of people based on which month they were born in.

Here's what it said about February, my month of birth. I also added some comments.

----------FEBRUARY BABY --------------------
Abstract thoughts. - Absolutely. My thoughts break things down into logical elements.
Loves reality and abstract. - I think this goes for just about everyone. We all love a littel of everything.
Intelligent and clever. - Without bragging, I'd have to agree with this based on what others have told me.
Changing personality. - Yeah. I've changed quite a bit over the past few years. Getting divorced and my life on the right track contributed a lot to this.
Attractive. - I guess.
Sexiest out of everyone. - Well, duh! Nah, I'm not. I do okay, though, I guess.
Temperamental. - Not really. I'm pretty laid back and don't get excited unless there's a good reason to.
Quiet, shy and humble. - Yes! Not as much now, but just a few years ago this was me in a nutshell. I'm still quiet, but not so shy and humble anymore. Part of the "Changing personality".
Honest and loyal. - Yes. Not that I haven't done dishonest and disloyal things, but the people close to me can vouch for me being honest and loyal with them.
Determined to reach goals. - Not goal driven by any means, but yeah, I have some goal I aim to accomplish in life.
Loves freedom. - Do any of you not love freedom??
Rebellious when restricted. - Yes. I don't care to be told what I can't do.
Loves aggressiveness. - Not at all. Well, maybe. I love a certain agressiveness in women. But not in myself. I'm anything but.
Too sensitive and easily hurt. - Absolutely. I wear my heart and emotions on my sleeve.
Gets angry really easily but does not show it. - To some extent. I hold off on showing that I'm angry until I know for sure I have a good reason to.
Dislikes unnecessary things. - Yes! There's nothing worse than getting some knick-knack for Christmas! Give me something I can use!
Loves making friends but rarely shows it. - Yep. I'm picky about my friends, though, which is probably why I don't show it.
Horny. - Aren't we all? I guess I have tried a few things most wouldn't admit to, though. I'll try most anything at least once.
Daring and stubborn. - Mmm.. Yeah. Not very daring, though. I procrastinate over things and rarely throw my hat into the crowd as Roger Waters would say.
Ambitious. - In some parts of my life. I think "if someone else can do it, why can't I?".
Realizing dreams and hopes. - I keep hoping that some day my dreams will be realized.
Sharp. - Goes along with "Intelligent and Clever", no?
Loves entertainment and leisure. - I watch a lot of movies, so I'd say a definitive yes.
Romantic on the inside not outside. - Very romantic on the inside. Try to show it on the outside too, though, but I usually come off looking clumsy and nerdy.
Superstitious and ludicrous. - Not really.
Spendthrift. - Yep, 'fraid so. Goes along with wanting to reach goals. Gotta have the capital to make it happen.
Tries to learn to show emotions. - I'm not afraid to show emotions.

The Beast (of War) (1988)
Set in Afghanistan during the 80's when The Soviet Union aided the Afghan government in keeping rebels from overthrowing the current rule.

The thing I really didn't get in the movie was why the rebels all spoke the local language, while the Soviets all spoke perfect American English! Go one way or the other, you know.. Either they all speak English, or they all speak the native tongue.

The movie tries to show the conflict from both sides of the coin. The movie is set around the rebels hunting down a a Soviet tank that wiped out their village in the very beginning of the movie. The tank commander is a mad man that'll do anything for his mother country.

It's pretty violent, and shows some rather unusal violence. Not very graphic, though.

I saw someone rate this movie as #10 on the best war movies of all time.. While I can't name 10 war movies that are better, I'm pretty sure this doesn't deserve #10. More like #100.

Wednesday April 11th 2007 (Entry was updated on Thursday April 12th 2007)

Hey, remember my ditch experience a few weeks ago?

Well, imagine pretty much the same situation, just this time at 50 mph.

Yep, I did it again. Snow's coming down outside, and there's about an inch layer of slushy stuff on the road. I was wonder how slippery it was, so I yanked the steering wheel to get the rear end sliding. Nothing. Hmm, yank a little more, then. Yes! Rear end slides out. I try to keep it in check with counter steering and giving it some gas, but it just keeps on coming.

At this point I'm sideways across both lanes, heading for the ditch. The car turns just a little more and hits the ditch backwards at about a 45 angle. There are some telephone poles and a house coming up a little further down, so I was kinda hoping not to hit them too hard. Amazingly enough, the car continues turning as it's going backwards, and as it crests the ditch and heads onto a grassy area, the front end swings around the correct way again. At this point the car is still travelling about 15-20 mph, so I put it in 2dn gear and give it some gas to keep the car moving. Didn't want it to stop and get stuck. I make my way acrosss the ditch again and I'm back on the road, at no point slowing to anything less than 10 mpg!

I think the extent of the damage to the car is that my muffler kinda shifted a little to the right. There's some grass and stuff stuck to the underside of the car, but everything's still in fine shape.

I couldn't help but laugh when I got back on the road. It was soo cool! Spin around at 50mph, head backwards into the ditch/field, then just keep driving it out like nothing happened. I'm sure the guy that came the other way a little after I was back on the road wondered what the hell happened judging by the tracks in the road.

Yeah, you'd think I'd learn. I really need to change out my rear tires. I had them on the front last year, but having them on the back this year makes for an interesting ride. The rear end floats around quite a bit on snowy roads. No big deal as long as you don't purposely make it worse! ;o) I guess I'll try not to get into any more trouble this winter season.

Anyway, that's my story. What a hoot!!

Edit: Added some pics taken about 5 hours after the incident. Lots of rain had washed away most of the snow, but you can still see the tracks in the grass. You can see the sign and telephone poles and such that I missed! You can also see the tear in the dirt from where the muffler tip dug into the ground a little bit. I guess I was really lucky not to hit anything. What a ride, though!!
