Heat (1995)
Directed by Michael Mann (of Miami Vice fame). It had a very "Miami Vice" feel to it at times, but that's a good thing. I used to love that show!

This movie is litarlly riddled with "big name" actors. Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, etc. Even Henry Rollins is in this movie!

It's a long movie, and at times it drags on a little bit. There's a little too much focus on the personal lives of the main characters. It's not essential for the main plot. But not too bad, though. Overall it's a pretty awesome movie, even if the ending is a bit of a let down.

1408 (2007)
John Cusack, my favorite male actor (don't ask me why..I just always liked him from when I used to watch him in "teen movies" during the 80's/90's), plays the main character in this "scary" movie. At least that's what Jay Leno said about it.. A good old scary movie without the gore that movies rely on these days. Unfortunately I'll have to disagree with Leno.. Nothing scary about this movie. Suspense, sure, but even that was lacking. I had high hopes for it, but as it turns out it was pretty average. It's very "Stephen King"-ish, though, so fans for King might enjoy it.

Relative Strangers (2006)
One of my other favorite actors (Ron Livingston... "Band of Brothers", "Office Space", etc) plays a successful psychologist and author that's about to get married. That's when his "parents" drop a bomb shell on him.. He's adopted! So he seeks out his birth parents, expecting to find a sophisticated couple. They are anything but, though, and this is where the problems start.

While the birth parents are a little over the top, and as such, annoying, the movie manages to be pretty good anyway. Ron Livingston and Neve Campbell "save" this movie, though. The other characters are annoying and/or boring for the most part.

Saw something rather "cute" at lunch.

Little Amish people racing around in their little Amish buggies being pulled by little Amish horses. It was cute! They were kids ranging from probably 4 to 6 years old. I guess it's their version of riding go carts. :o) Cute tiny horses too!

Living and Dying (2007)
Wow. It's not often you come across a movie that redefines your definition of "sucks". But this one did just that, and it did it well! From the awful acting to the leaking story line, it all sucked. And what's with all the foreigners starring in this movie? It like ever actor had a different international accent. It did make me laugh a few times, though. Not because it was funny but because it was just that bad!

Bai Ling stars in this movie. She also starred in Man About Town that I talked about a few days ago. She was annoying in MAT, and she was horribly annoying in this movie.

All in all I think it's the worst case of bad acting I've ever seen.

Misunderstandings.. or assumptions
Don't you just hate when people assume things about you? As I wrote earlier, I kinda messed up the whole K thing. I said I was gonna call her the following week. Well, I never did call her. That weekend I decided it wasn't worth the hassle 'cause there was no way any kind of normal relationship would come out of it. Even if we did start dating, it would only have lasted a few months at best. So I decided to just cut my losses and move on.

I also tried to cancel my myspace account (which I only got so I could leave comments on K's page), but since I can't get to the e-mail for the e-mail address I used to sign up, I can't confirm me wanting to cancel the account. So I decided I'd just delete all the content on my account instead. Of course, myspace being retarded as it always is, it kept giving me "sorry, an unexpected error has occurred" messages. I think it's more unexpected when errors don't occur on myspace. But anyway, I digress.

After I "cancelled" my myspace content, K sends me a message on myspace that reads:

Date: Jun 25, 2007 12:44 PM
Subject: ummm
Body: serious anger issues or what??

Serious anger issues? Not at all. In fact, I'm not the least bit upset about the whole situation. I just decided not to waste any more of my time on her.

So that's the story. I just wanted to clear up any confusion concerning my feelings about all this.

Needs some TLC
That's what the guy said about the jet ski. Apparently his idea of TLC is radically different from mine.

One cylinder was broken clean off the block. Upper part of the block has a crack, and the crank case was filled with water. It appears the engine swallowed a lot of water, and the cylinder broke right off when the piston tried to compress the water.

The guy also said it ran, but idled a bit high. Obviously this engine was not in any running shape, and even if it did, I bet it would have made one hell of a racket.

No big deal, though.. I'll get it fixed. I was expecting to have to do some work to it, just not of this magnitude.

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007)
The sequel to THHE. A pretty crappy one as sequels go. While the first one had huge issues too, this one was worse. At least the first one was a bit creepy, which the second failed at being.

Got myself a jet ski.

Came with a two place trailer too. Now I just need another jet ski to occupy the other spot. ;o)

Also bought myself an air conditioner for my bedroom! After about 9 years in the house, I'm finally getting cooled down! Window and ceiling fans have done okay so far, but with the bedroom being upstairs it gets mighty hot. So I stopped by Lowes on the way to pick up the jet ski last night and got a Samsung 6000 BTU window unit. Has a remote control too! ;o)

Shooter (2007)
(Marky) Mark Wahlberg as an ex USMC sniper who gets framed for the attempted killing of the president of the United States of America. Danny Glover is the evil guy that sets him up.

Wahlberg goes from being the hunted to being the hunter out for revenge and justice. I love a good sniper movie, and this was pretty decent. Think my favorite is Enemy at The Gates, though.

Not Marky's best effort to date, but he did okay. Some good action in this movie.

Where Eagles Dare (1968)
Another classic WWII movie. Clint Eastwood amongst others in this. A bit dumb in places, but that's how movies were back then. Overall it was a decent movie. Basically a team of soldiers (all selected for their special talents) set out to free a US General that's been captured by the Germans after his plane was shot down. There is, however, more to the story. The General isn't who he claims to be.

Well, things were going good with K.

That is until I seemingly ruined it all in one night.

I was really tired and irritable on Tuesday. Still I went over to K's to hopefully finish her kitchen. I guess I had a really bad attitude all night, 'cause she feels I was nasty and rude.

I'm gonna give her the weekend to do her thing and hopefully be able to get over Tuesday night's events, and call her next week.

Next (2007)
Well Nicholas Cage redeemed himself after the Ghost Rider fiasco. Next is about a guy (Cage) that has the ability to see into the future. Only catch is he can only see things in which he's personally involved, and no more than 2 minutes ahead. Except for this one girl, that is.. He's seen her a long time coming. But why? What is it about his girl that's so special?

Good movie!

The Premonition (2007)
A woman wakes up one day and her husband is dead as a result of an accident. The next day she wakes up, and he's alive again. This goes on for a few days every other day. Basically this is a good movie with a crappy ending. I was totally into it until the ending. The last maybe 10 mins or so. Sandra Bullock is believable in her role.. it's just too bad the ending is so lame.

Hell's Kitchen
No, not the TV show. I'm talking about K's kitchen. I volunteered to help her put new laminate on her kitchen counters and install a new sink. How hard could it be, right? Well, it's not all that hard, but crikey!, it takes a long time! So far we have probably about 16 hours into it, and we're just about 1/2 way done. I must admit that it does look pretty darn good, though. And as an added bonus, K and I have gotten closer spending all this time together. We really do make a good team.

R.I.P. Enya

I'm so sad.

I just received news that Enya, the family dog, passed away on Saturday. These are pics from her last day.

She'll be missed. :o(

Okay, a couple things..

Face lift
I've been remodelling my living room. I figured some paint and some trim, no big deal. Christ! It's been 1-1/2 weeks since I started, and I'm not done yet! I still have to put up crown molding and some other finish work. I really have a good feeling about the end result, though.. I think it'll be something I can be proud of.

Aim. Or lack of.
Call me what you want, but I don't especially enjoy sitting in other guys' piss (seems most guys have problems hitting the target). So that's why when I have to do sit-down business on the can, I go in the ladies room (it's single occupancy, so no weird rendez vous). Unfortunately, other guys also use the this room from time to time. Yesterday was one of those times. Someone with really bad aim had sprayed from about a foot in front of the can all the way up to the tank! I can see how there would be the occasional splash or two, but this was way beyond that. This was nasty. At least I have the decency to clean up after myself if I have an accidental overshoot or an unlucky splash. This individual did nothing, apparently. It's the worst collateral damage I've ever seen. C'mon guys, don't be fucking pigs!

From every side the cold winds blow
You know why
And I know why
And we will see what will be
What the next year holds
Oh except returning leaflets go
Another minute forms

All my life I thought I knew the road ahead
Oh what a strange world (what a strange world)
Itís a strange world of shadow and light
Oh but isnít it funny how the time goes by
When all of the while youíre wondering how to say goodbye
Goodbye

Every day and nights will come
Iíll be missing you
And Iím going to be brave
When it hits you

The way you wanted to be

Oh let it all come down on me
Every year, every week, every day
Every memory
Will keep my mind open
The way you wanted to be
The way you wanted to be
(I will miss youÖ)

Every day and nights will come
Iíll be missing you
And Iím going to be brave
When it hits you

The way you wanted to be

Oh let it all come down on me
Every year, every week, every day
Every memory
Keep my mind open
The way you wanted to be
Oh let it all come down on me
(all my life Iíll be waiting)
Iíll be counting all the years, the days, the weeks
The memories

Every day of my life
Iíll be missing you

That would be "The way you wanted to be" by Delerium. What a great song!

Man About Town (2006)
Wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie, but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Ben Affleck stars as a talent agent who has it all. Success, money, a beautiful wife etc. Even so, he feels he doesn't know himself. Doesn't know who he is. So he takes a class called "Who are you?" in which he's required to write a journal. Like most journals, it contains a lot of personal thoughts and things nobody else knows. So when it falls into the hands of a freelance journalist, it could potentially spell the end of his carreer. Oh, and to top it all off, his wife's been screwing one of his best clients!

Not as much comedy as expected. More drama, though. But all in all it turned out well and I liked the movie!

Took delivery of my new (to me) leaf blower yesterday. It's a well used (but good working) Redmax EB7000. This is a backpack style blower, and boy does it blow! It's not nearly as noisy as I thought it would be. In fact, I wouldn't call it loud at all. My lawn tractor is much noisier!

Now, this is a contractor/professional grade blower. Do I need that? Not really, but by the time you buy a small "home use" one, you might as well spend a little more and get something that'll last longer!

It does need a little TLC, but it started up and ran great right out of the box.

No pictures (yet, at least).

So K asked (in a roundabout way) me to help her tear up the linoleum floor in her kitchen last night. I agreed to help. Then, when I get there, there's suddenly more stuff that needs done. She conveniently "forgot" to tell me about that, I guess. So after removing her built-in oven, we disassembled what cabinetry around/above where the oven went. Then after that, it turns out the fridge had to be moved out of the kitchen too since the linoleum went under it. Only problem was that the door opening to the dining room was a hair smaller than the fridge, so we had to take the doors off the fridge first. This in itself was pretty funny, since once we started moving the fridge, loads of frozen food fell out of the freezer onto K.

Finally it was time to rip up the floor. A friend of hers that's gonna put down tile on the floor had said the linoleum would come off really easy. Well, not this one! not only that, there were 3 layers of it! We only removed the top 2 layers, though. K figured the last layer could stay and not cause any issues. Hopefully she's right, 'cause that bottom layer was on there like a SOAB. So anyway, we (mostly I) spent the next couple hours tearing up floor.

K made a beer run while I was working and picked up some Smirnoff Ice (my fave) for when we were done. She used my car for the beer run, and while she was out, some guy hits on her and comments on her nice car. She of course takes full credit for it, not telling the guy it's not her car!

We decided we make a good team. :o)

K's a very pretty girl and takes good care of herself. You wouldn't think she gets "down and dirty" like that, but she does. Of course, I've known this since the first time we went out. She showed me her house and all the stuff she'd done to it (her bathroom was the project at that time). Still, it was cool to see her in action. She was loving using her new crow bar (flat pry bar ;o) to yank things apart!
